چکیده

The production of gamma interferon (IFN-y) by peripheral blood lymphocytes was studied in 38 patients with gastric cancer. Purified protein derivative (PPO) as a specific antigen and three kinds of mitogens, phytohemagglutinin-P (PHA), concanavalin A(Con A) and pokeweed mitogen (PWMl, were used as IFN-y inducers. IFN-y production by lymphocytes was markedly reduced in patients with gastric cancer when these inducers were used. Reduction of IFN-y production was observed more often in patients of Stage IV than in those of Stage I when PPO or Con A was used. PPO-induced IFN-y production significantly increased in patients who were operated on curatively, while it decreased in those who were operated on noncuratively. IFN-y production by lymphocytes, especially when PPO is used as an IFN-y inducer, reflects cell-mediated immunity in patients with gastric cancer. It may be useful as quantitative parameter to predict therapeutic effects and prognosis in cancer patients.

Effects of Gamma Irradiation on Proliferation and IL-5 Production of Peripheral Blood Lymphocytes

Gamma irradiation is routinely used for suppression of lymphocyte function in transfusion and transplantation procedures. In recent years, some investigators focused on the effects of ionizing radiation on special aspects of lymphocyte function and considered the possibility of its clinical application for treatment of some immunological disorders. In this study, we evaluated the effects of fiv...

حساسیت کروموزومی لنفوسیت‌های بیماران سرطان سر و گردن نسبت به تابش با اشعه گاما در محیط آزمایشگاهی توسط دو روش میکرونوکلوئوس و G2

Background: It is reported that high frequency of chromosomal aberrations in peripheral blood lymphocytes of individuals is a marker of cancer predisposition. The aim of this study was to investigate the in vitro frequency of chromosomal damage in lymphocytes of patients with head and neck cancer against gamma irradiation compared with those in healthy individuals. Methods: In a case and con...

Gastric T lymphocyte responses to Helicobacter pylori in patients with H pylori colonisation.

Helicobacter pylori has been identified as a dominant factor in the pathogenesis of duodenal ulcer. The aim of this study was to examine peripheral blood and gastric lymphocyte proliferation and cytokine production in patients with H pylori colonisation. Sixty five dyspeptic patients attending for endoscopy were studied; 35 of these were H pylori positive and 30 H pylori negative as assessed by...

P170: The Role of Th1 Lymphocytes in The Pathogenesis of Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

Th1 lymphocytes produce cytokines such as IL-2, IFN-γ, and TNF-α, TNF-β and GM-CSF. IFN-γ is the most important Th1 cell cytokine that induces the production of IgG, activation of macrophages, enhancing phagocytosis, and also increasing MHC class I and class II molecules. Increasing serum level of Th1 cytokines have also been observed in MS patients. It has also been prov...

Increased populations of regulatory T cells in peripheral blood and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes in patients with gastric and esophageal cancers.

PURPOSE It is well known that tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) and, to a lesser extent, peripheral blood lymphocytes from patients with advanced-stage cancer have a poor immune response. Regulatory T cells (T-regs), characterized by coexpression of CD4 and CD25 markers, can inhibit the immune response mediated by CD4+/CD25- and CD8+ T cells. In the present study, we evaluated the prevalenc...
